BAY, Laguna – Police nabbed an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan and president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) here for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition on Monday, March 20.
The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Laguna Provincial Field Office said the search on the house of Barangay Masaya Chairman Angelito de Mesa was covered by a warrant issued by Judge Agripino Bravo, executive judge of the Regional Trial Court in Lucena City, Quezon dated on March 17, 2023 for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
De Mesa yielded a caliber 5.56mm (M16) with scope and suppressor, a caliber 9mm, caliber .45 pistol, 85 caliber 5.56 rounds, 15 caliber .45 rounds, 20 caliber 9mm rounds, three magazines for caliber 5.56; two magazines for caliber .45, and a magazine for caliber 9mm.
The search was witnessed by De Mesa’s wife, barangay councilor Michael Magtibay, and chief of barangay tanods (watchmen) Ricky Alvarez, and recorded by an alternative recording device (ARD).
De Mesa and the pieces of evidence were brought to the CIDG-Laguna office for documentation and proper disposition.
CIDG-Laguna was assisted by the Bay Municipal Police Station during the service of the warrant.
