4 women feted for contributions to Western Visayas tourism


ILOILO CITY – In line with National Women’s Month, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-6 awarded four women for their positive contributions to the tourism industry in Western Visayas.

DOT-6 Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriquez led on Monday, March 20, the awarding of the Icons of Sustainable Tourism Awards and Recognition (ISTaR) here as part of promoting gender equality in the tourism industry.

Awardees were:

– Rhea Balandra of the Malay Boracay Vendors, Masseurs, Manicurists, and Hair Braiders Association.

Balandra is an Icon of Cultural Tourism for being the president of a women’s association in world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province.

– Aklan’s Editha Sazon, an Icon of Hospitality Tourism, for owning and managing Marzon Hotel that has branches in Kalibo town and Boracay Island.

– Indigenous people Rachel Mateo, Icon of Cultural Tourism, for leading the Ati women of the Nagpana Minorities Association in Barotac Viejo town, Iloilo province.

–  Remedios Bantug, Icon of Eco-Tourism, for being the vice president of the Bantug Lake Ranch Development Corp. in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
