ILIGAN CITY – Mayor Nursiya Ismael of Lantawan, Basilan has turned over 34 loose firearms surrendered by constituents to the military in a ceremony at the 19th Special Forces Company headquarters in Barangay Tabuk, Isabela City, Basilan.
Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force Basilan chief, said these were two M16 rifles, one grenade launcher, four Garand rifles, one Carbine, five shotguns, two caliber .45 pistols, 14 caliber .38 pistols, one Osi caliber 9mm, one KG9, one caliber .357 pistol, and two caliber .22 pistols.
They were deposited at the H19SFC for safekeeping.
Col. Frederick Sales, deputy brigade commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, attributed this accomplishment to the collaborative efforts of the 4th Special Forces Battalion under Lt. Col. Bernard Samin and the local government to implement the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) program in the province of Basilan.
JTF Basilan said 370 loose firearms have been surrendered and 4,323 have been stenciled through the SALW program.
The activity was witnessed by Basilan Provincial Administrator Manny Muarip, representing Gov. Jim Haraman-Salliman; Sales, representing Gobway, and Col. Carlos Madronio, Basilan police chief.
