3 unexploded ordnances discovered in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY – Three unexploded explosive ordnances were discovered in a fishpond inside the municipal hall compound in Matag-ob, Leyte.

Mayor Bernandino G. Tacoy, in an interview on Tuesday, March 21, said the UXOs – two 155mm and a 75mm projectiles – considered as high-powered explosives were found while they were cleaning the fishpond.

Tacoy requested the assistance of the Explosive Ordnance Division in Ormoc City in Leyte to extract the UXOs since these could pose threats to the community if not handled properly.

He said that the UXOs were found during the previous administration from different areas in the municipality and were placed in the fishpond and have not been disposed of for years.

Tacoy added that they are still trying to recover another UXO in the area believed to be used during World War II.

The EOD team brought the recovered UXOs to the Ormoc City EOD K9 Unit for safekeeping and proper disposition.
