PH pledges US$100,000 for Yemen's Humanitarian Fund

The Philippines is supporting the United Nations' response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen by pledging 100,000 US dollars of fund assistance.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo made the announcement during a high-level pledging event for Yemen's crisis, which happened in Geneva at the end of February.

Throughout the years, the Philippines has been a consistent donor to the Yemen Humanitarian Fund, a country-based pooled fund managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

"For the past five years, the Philippines has responded to the call of the United Nations and the international community for funding to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, over and above our contribution to the Central Emergency Response Fund," Manalo said.

He added that the Philippine contribution demonstrates the country's advocacy for people-centered intervention in crises.

"Filipinos are one with the people of Yemen, especially those in most need of our help and those in vulnerable situations, including women and children, migrants, older persons, and persons with disabilities," he added.

He then condemned the civilian casualties and displacement resulting from years of protracted conflict in Yemen. He affirmed the Philippines' support and cooperation in the common endeavor to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the country.
