The Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist absorbed a 4-0 beating from Fatia Benmessahel at the start of Elite Women 60-63kg light welterweight hostilities. A judge from Bosnia and Herzegovina awarded the match with a 28-28 draw, but the remaining four judges had it in favor of the French fighter. The Indian judge scored the bout with a commanding 30-25 victory for Benmessahel, the Tunisian judge gave it 30-26, and judges from Tajikistan and the Czech Republic scored identical 29-27. A victory for Pasuit could have arranged her a second-round meeting with seventh seed Shinetsetseg Uranbileg of Mongolia, who earned an opening-round bye. The Philippines still have two fighters left in Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who both had first-round byes. Petecio, who is fighting in the 54-57kg featherweight class, is set to clash against sixth seed Tianna Guy of Trinidad and Tobago, while Villegas is scheduled to collide with Bulgaria’s Genadieva Chukanova Zlatislava in the 48-50kg light flyweight division.
