Kai Sotto shows way as Hiroshima cruises past Ibaraki

Kai Sotto delivered 21 points to lift Hiroshima past Ibaraki, 90-72, for back-to-back victories in the 2022-23 Japan B.League on Saturday, March 18, at the Adastria Mito Arena in Ibaraki.

The Dragonflies leaned on their decent second-quarter production of 18-9 to outscore the Robots and greet the halftime buzzer with a double-digit lead, 36-25.

With the win, Hiroshima improved 30-11 to remain as the fifth seed in the league.

Sotto also came away with 12 rebounds on a decent 8-of-12 shooting laced with three blocks in nearly 23 minutes of play.

Dwayne Evans and Kerry Blackshear Jr added 16 and 12, respectively, while Ryo Terashima had 11 to go along with five boards and three assists.

Ibaraki bridged the gap in the fourth quarter, 60-54, but Hiroshima would remain unfazed and eventually pull away courtesy of Sotto’s back-to-back jumpers to turn it into a 68-57 lead.

From then on, the Dragonflies have completely gotten the Robots off their backs to cruise to their second straight win.

Eric Jacobsen led the way for Ibaraki with 19 points and six rebounds as it continued to struggle with a 15-26 win-loss card.
