Filipino travelers can now add China to their preferred travel destination list after the Chinese Embassy in Manila announced that it will resume issuance of visas to tourists.

The announcement was made by Chinese Ambassador to Manila Huang Xilian on his Facebook page.

“China resumes issuance of all visas, welcoming Filipino tourists back!,” his post read.

“The long wait is over as China finally resumes issuing all types of visas for foreigners, including the tourism visa, port visa, and multiple visa-exemption policies starting from March 15, 2023,” Huang added.

He said that applications for visa can be done via its online visa processing portal on https://cova.mfa.gov.cn, but those interested can consult with the Chinese Embassy in Manila and Consulates in Cebu, Laoag, and Davao for more detailed requirements and procedures.

This is the first time China will reopen to foreign tourists since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic three years ago when Beijing decided to close its borders.

It came after the announcement last month of victory over the virus and after authorities lifted its travel warning to Chinese nationals in January.

Areas in China that did not require visas before the closure of borders will also revert to visa-free policy.

This includes the southern tourist island of Hainan and the visa-exemption cruise policy for Shanghai.

Visa-exemption policy for foreigners from Hong Kong and Macau to Guangdong, China's most prosperous province, would also resume.

Also, visa-free entry for ASEAN tour groups to Guilin and Guangxi would return.

“I'm very excited to invite everyone back to beautiful China! Welcome!,” Huang said.
