Out of 900 competing entries for this year’s competition, the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Cybersecurity Education Program emerged as one of the most outstanding ICT projects at the World Summit on Information Society Prizes.

The winning project called “Cybersecurity Education in the Philippines in the Face of New Normal Adversities” has helped the DICT in training more than 70,000 Filipinos on cybersecurity and data privacy among others at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

For DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, the award serves as a motivation to continue and strive for greater.

“This is a testament to our commitment to promoting and advancing ICT innovation and excellence in the government sector. We accept the challenge that this award presents and we will continue to strive for excellence in our work,” said Uy.

Not only did it highlight DICT’s outstanding project in 2023, this victory also marked the fourth consecutive year that the department has won at the major global competition.

“The projects recognized from the previous years were Zamboanga Digital Hub in 2020; Enabling Educators in Remote Teaching and Learning Training Program in 2021; and Free WiFi for All in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas in Western Mindanao in 2022,” said DICT.

In line with the administration’s vision, the department, earlier in January, disclosed that digitalization is one of the country’s top priorities.
