Bong Go to PNP: Reselling of illegal drugs should not be tolerated
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Friday, March 17 backed the move of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs to cite in contempt two anti-drug operatives for their involvement in the alleged "recycling" of illegal drugs during an operation. During a Senate hearing conducted by the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on March 15, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jerrywin Rebosora and Police Master Sergeant Lorenzo Catarata were questioned regarding the Philippine National Police's (PNP) investigation into the disappearance of 42 kilograms of shabu that were seized during an operation in October 2022. The police officers have been cited in contempt by Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa after he and Sen. Rafael "Raffy" Tulfo, noticed inconsistencies in their statements. Go said he is dismayed over the re-emergence of so-called "ninja" cops, as this is a setback to former President Rodrigo Duterte's fight against illegal drugs. The term "Ninja cops" refers to police operatives involved in the resale of confiscated prohibited drugs. "Ayoko pong masayang ang inumpisahan ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na labanan po ang iligal na droga, labanan ang kriminalidad (I don't want to put to waste former president Duterte initiative to fight illegal drugs)," said Go. “Kayo na po ang humusga kung nakakalakad ba ang inyong mga anak na hindi nababastos, nasasaktan. Dahil po ‘yan sa sakripisyo ni (dating) pangulong Duterte na labanan po ang kriminalidad at iligal na droga (It's up to you to judge if your children can go out without being disrespected or harmed. That is due to the sacrifice given by the former president to fight criminality and illegal drugs)," the senator added. "Ngayon, kung bumabalik na naman itong ninja cops at sinasabi recycled, kahit na ilang porsyento po ang ni-recycle nila, alam n’yo, ilang buhay na naman po ang masisira d’yan, ilang pamilya na naman po ang wawasakin (Now, if these ninja cops have returned and are recycling drugs, many lives and families will again be destroyed)," warned the senator. “Kapag kumalat po ang droga sa daan, marami na naman pong pamilya ang masisira (If more drugs are peddled on the streets, more and more families will be destroyed)," he added. With this, Go urged law enforcement agencies to remain relentless in the fight against criminality and illegal drugs. In particular, Go said authorities to address reports that police personnel are rewarding informants with illegal drugs. "Walang dapat bumalik na droga sa daan o sa kalye dahil masisira na naman ang pamilya, masisira ang utak ng magiging biktima po ng droga, (No illegal drug should return to the streets, otherwise, families will once again be destroyed, more victims would be destroyed)," emphasized Go.
