2,100 farmers in Northern Samar receive P5,000 aid from DA

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) distributed cash assistance to over 2,100 farmers in Northern Samar from March 15 to 16. Beneficiaries from the municipalities of San Roque, Bobon, Silvino Lobos, Mapanas, and Victoria were given P5,000 each. The money was distributed at the San Roque Evacuation Center during the 63rd founding anniversary of San Roque, Northern Samar. Larry Sultan, DA Regional Technical Director for Operations, urged the farmers to use the money to purchase fertilizers and other farm inputs to enhance their palay production under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) program and family income. Sultan also discussed the salient features and advantages of the Farmers, Fisherfolks Clustering, and Consolidation farming approach. Farm consolidation and clustering aim to increase food production levels, improve farmers’ and fishers’ incomes, and provide better access to resources, technologies, and markets for farmers and fisherfolk.
