President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said on Thursday, March 16, the government is looking into the possibility of using idle state-owned lands for his administration's massive housing program. "Tinitingnan pa natin ang posibilidad na paggamit ng mga bakanteng lupa ng estado upang palawigin ang programang pabahay, alinsunod sa mga batas at alituntunin ng ating bansa (We are looking into the possibility of using vacant lands owned by the state to expand the housing program, according to the laws and rules of the country)," Marcos said during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) project in Barangay Balatas, Naga City, Camarines Sur. While the government's goal to build one million houses every year until 2028 has started, the President pointed out the government continues to find sources of funds to finance the housing program. Pinag-aaralan din natin kung papaano natin mapopondohan nang sapat ang mga proyektong kagaya nito (The government continues to explore ways to further expand the housing program. We are also studying how to sufficiently fund projects like this)," Marcos said. Marcos called on the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to perform its mandate through creating strategies and policies geared toward building decent and affordable houses for Filipinos. The DHSUD was able to seal 83 memoranda of understanding and four memoranda of agreement from its partner government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to implement the 4PH program. Marcos led the groundbreaking of Camarines Sur's housing project which aims to construct around 1,200 housing units situated on a 1.2-hectare area. The plan includes seven mid-rise buildings with 20 units in each floor and will be strategically located near the city proper. It is part of the two housing projects in the Bicol region under the 4PH program. The government has conducted 19 groundbreaking activities since its initial launch in September 2022.
