TACLOBAN CITY – Construction of Phase 1 of the New Passenger Terminal Building of the Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport here which seeks to become an international airport by 2025 is 50 percent complete.
The City Information Office said construction of Phase 1 of the Tacloban Airport Development Project has a total project cost of P759,029,780.29.
The national government allocated P700 million for its second phase, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The project which started in 2020 and has a total cost of P1.96 billion will develop 36,298.98-square meters of land and can accommodate 1,670 passengers.
The city government is now in the process of acquiring land for the expansion of the runway from 2.1 kilometers to 2.5 kms with a 150-meter airstrip on each side.
The runway expansion will be implemented by 2024 to meet international runway length standards and accommodate international flights.
