Max Mara brings to the Philippines 'The Blue Horizon'
Summer chic the French Riviera way
By John Legaspi
When you think of summer dressing, the things that usually come to mind are pieces imbued with vivid prints mimicking the natural wonders of the season–and it is just right. Summer season is all about having fun with colors and patterns, inviting everyone to go for an adventure. But for the luxury label Max Mara, this season is all about restraint, exploring timeless silhouettes, classic tones, and modern femininity in the theme of the French Riviera.
Dubbed “The Blue Horizon,” Max Mara’s spring-summer 2023 line is an homage to Renée Perle, the muse of French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue, and the architectural style of Eileen Gray. Its mission is to gift everyone a summer-style code reminiscent of what was seen on the sunny beaches of France in the 1920s.
Presented last September during Milan Fashion Week, the collection features a series of looks in *lino greggio* or unprocessed, undyed linen that looks like burlap, sometimes with raw fringed hems. What graced its runway were back-baring tank tops, baggy linen trousers, long skirts, and extravagant organza bows with floral prints in varying shades of neutrals. Its sun-bleached coats are nods to the beach robes of the past. Completing the collection are pieces in different shades of Mediterranean blue.
The collection arrived in the Philippines just in time for Filipinos wanting to refresh their summer closet. The brand launched the collection in the spirit of past fashion shows done in France—salon style with selected guests looking at the pieces worn by muses. Manila Bulletin Lifestyle got the opportunity to see the collection up close and here are some of our favorite pieces.
