Hard work pays off for son of village chair in Bacolod as he tops Medtech board exam
BACOLOD CITY – Hard work and perseverance paid off for the 23-year-old son of a barangay chairman here as he topped the March 2023 Medical Technologists Licensure Examination (MTLE) with a 92.10 percent rating.

Sidrey Mel Aldeguer Flores, youngest among the three children of Barangay Villamonte Captain Rommel Flores, graduated summa cum laude at Colegio de San Agustin Bacolod (CSA-B) in 2022.
Sidrey took the exam in Iloilo City on March 8 and 9. He said that the medical technology course was his personal choice because of the fascinating subjects.
The young Flores said that he will rest after the exam and conserve his energy as he plans to enter medical school to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor.
Sidrey urged those taking the board exam to have mental fortitude to be able to surpass all of their personal struggles and emerge victorious in the end.
He said that he did not expect to be No. 1, considering the number of examinees and the stiff competition, but he was hoping to be in the Top 10.
Sidrey said that there was a slim chance that he will be in the Top 10 but he was happy with the outcome as he believes that God really planned this for him.
He said that he did not panic and was even fulfilled when he answered the last item in the exam.
Sidrey said that staying healthy physically, mentally, and spiritually helped him rule the exam.
In preparation for the exam, he strengthened his body by eating healthy, having leisure time and good social relationship with people, and creating a disciplined routine.
He said that the pandemic limited their clinical exposure which he considered vital in their course. Despite this, he said they were able to cope up with the challenges by maximizing what they have learned.
Sidrey graduated salutatorian in elementary and valedictorian in high school.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez here lauded Sidrey for his achievement and bringing honor to this city.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said that 4,714 out of 6,165 examinees passed the exam conducted by the Board of Medical Technology in Metro Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.
