Manila's engineering department installs new streetlights, rehabilitates sidewalks and drainage
The City of Manila's Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) started the installation of new streetlights and rehabilitation of sidewalks and drainage in the city on Wednesday, March 15.
The operations are part of the city government's annual street-clearing program.
DEPW's Public Utilities and Miscellaneous Services (PUMS) also deployed line workers to remove dangling wires from the electricity posts on Concepcion Street in Brgy. 11, Tondo, to provide safe roads for passersby and motorists.
Another cable bundling operation was also conducted along Concepcion St. corner C.M. Recto Ave. in Brgy. 11 Zone 2 Tondo; and R. Magsaysay Blvd. in Sta. Mesa.
The trees that were blocking portions of the roads along Lacson from Laon Laan to Aragon St., Sampaloc were trimmed by DEPW's Electrical Division.
The street light pedestals along Yuseco St. from Oroquieta to Rizal Avenue Sta. Cruz were also cleaned and repainted.
DEPW's Public Building and Installation Division (PBID) also installed tarpaulins for the celebration of Women's Month in the vicinity of Manila City Hall in Ermita.
Declogging and cleaning operations were also conducted by DEPW Flood Control Division to clear drainages along Pedro Gil from Ma. Orosa to Pilar Hidalgo Lim Sts., Malate; and Moriones St. and Sto. Cristo Ext. in Brgy. 69, Tondo.
Meanwhile, DEPW said they are almost done plastering the street benches along Silang St. in Brgy. 886 Zone 96, Sta. Ana.
It also repaired a concrete manhole cover along Apacible St. near cor Mahatma Gandhi St., Paco, Manila.
The city government thanked the DEPWH for its continuous efforts to improve the streets of Manila.
It said the sidewalk repairs and drainage unclogging operations in different parts of the city are still ongoing.
