Published Mar 15, 2023 03:21 am
Coventry Motors Corp., distributor of Land Rover in the Philippines, revealed the New Range Rover Sport on February 28th at the Solaire Resort and Casino poolside. The new Range Rover Sport redefines sport luxury, combining on and off-road performance with Range Rover refinement and sophistication. This 3rd generation is designed to be the most desirable, advanced and most capable Range Rover Sport.
Available in two powertrain configurations for the Philippines, the D300 Ingenium Diesel turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder inline 24v DOHC engine which puts out 296hp with 649Nm of torque, and a new Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) powertrain mated to the P440e Ingenium gasoline turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder inline which puts out a combined 434hp with 550Nm of torque and an EV range of 80kms. All Range Rover Sport variants are equipped with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Off-road performance is enhanced by the latest Terrain Response 2® system, which adjusts intelligently based on the traction needs of different terrain. Making it’s debut is the New Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control which helps drivers concentrate on tackling tricky terrain while taking care of the throttle, with a choice from four comfort settings.

Exterior

The exterior is unmistakably Range Rover Sport and it’s distinct profile with it’s characteristic short overhangs, muscular proportions, giving a strong, imposing road presence, stating power and performance. Up front the Range Rover lettering is in Matte Graphite Atlas same as the stealth-like front grille and distinct Pixel LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Around the rear is the sculpted tailgate featuring Range Rover script flanked by the LED taillights. On the side you’ll notice a character line that starts inder the clamshell bonnet and runs the length of the vehicle all the way to the tip of the wrap around brake lights, and continues on and around the tailgate. The flush door handles keep the exterior lines clean, the hidden waist rail finisher and laser-welded roof ensures a precise fit, enabling excellent aerodynamic performance, contributing to a drag coefficient of just 0.29. It rolls on Satin Grey alloy wheels matched by Satin Burnished Copper finishes for the bonnet louvres with side ingots and the front, rear bumpers and lower cladding are body color.

Interior

Step inside, as expected, you’ll get a commanding driving position and be surrounded by the finest materials, craftsmanship and technology. There’s the choice of sustainable materials like tactile and lightweight Ultrafabrics in Duo Tone colorways, with the option of extending to the dashboard and door detailing, or luxurious Windsor or Semi-Aniline leather. You get 22-way adjustable, heated and ventilated electric memory front seats with massage function and winged headrests. Rear passengers will find ergonomically optimized seating with a 31mm increase in legroom and 20mm greater knee clearance. Cabin air quality is maintained by the next-gen Cabin Air Purification Pro with PM2.5 filtration and Nanoetm X technology to reduce odors, bacteria, allergens, and the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The Pivi Pro infotainment has a floating 13.1-inch high resolution curved touchscreen at the center of the dashboard. It has controls for navigation to media and vehicle settings. Pivi Pro can be activated by simply saying “Hey Land Rover” or can be customized with a specific “wake word”. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto are standard, and a convenient 15W Wireless Device Charger
It’s equipped with a 1,430 watt, 29 speaker Meridian Signature Sound System with a subwoofer. Four headrests have speakers, allowing occupants of the four main seats to have personal “sound zones”. Tied into the audio system is the Active Noise Cancellation reducing road, tire and wind noise in the cabin. When set to Dynamic driving mode, it makes the engine sound more pronounced to occupants.

Chassis

The Range Rover Sport has advanced chassis technologies, it’s mixed-metal architecture (MLA-Flex) gives it 35% more torsional stiffness than the previous generation Range Rover Sport, and this works with the Integrated Chassis Control system. The latest generation Dynamic Air Suspension works with the New Dynamic Response Pro, the intelligent system governing the suspension. It varies the pressure in the air suspension chambers to deliver both comfort and dynamic handling and it monitors the eHorizon navigation data to actively adjust for up-coming turns on the road. This also provides ultimate roll control with a 48-volt electronic active roll control system applying up to 1400Nm of torque to each axle, allowing for higher levels of body and cornering control. Adaptive Dynamics 2 monitors external factors up to 500 times per second to deliver the right damper response while working with the other chassis technologies to to ensure the most precise driving dynamics. The optional Stormer Handler Pack increases the Range Rover Sport’s cornering ability with All-Wheel Steering which at slow speeds provides increased maneuverability by applying up to 7.3 degrees of contra-phase rear wheel steering and at high speeds applies in-phase rear wheel steering for stability and response giving the Range Rover Sport the on-road handling of a smaller vehicle.

Safety

The Range Rover Sport also has Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – featuring Emergency Braking, 3D Surround Camera, front and rear parking sensors, Wade Sensing, ClearSight Ground View and Maneouvring Lights, Cruise Control, Driver Condition Monitor, Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.
