Some parts of the country may continue to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of a low pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, March 15.
PAGASA last spotted the LPA at 265 kilometers east-northeast of Davao City around 3 a.m., Wednesday.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA may dissipate by Thursday, March 16, so there is a slim chance that the weather disturbance will become a tropical depression.
However, Badrina said the LPA could still bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms that could cause flooding or landslides in Mindanao and Eastern Visayas.
Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the LPA and localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the Cagayan Valley will have cloudy and rainy weather because of the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
There is also a possibility of flooding or landslides during moderate to occasional heavy rains in this region, PAGASA warned.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light monsoon rains.
