Scattered rain showers, thunderstorms in Mindanao due to LPA
The low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the southern part of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, March 14.
The LPA was estimated 340 kilometers (km) southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 320 km east-southeast of Davao City as of 3 a.m.
The chance of tropical depression development is still low, but PAGASA warns against possible flooding or landslides as the LPA may bring moderate to heavy rains to Mindanao.
PAGASA said the weakening northeast monsoon or “amihan” may also cause cloudy and rainy weather in the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.
There is also a possibility of flooding or landslides during moderate to occasional heavy rains in these areas, PAGASA warned.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the LPA and localized thunderstorms.
The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light amihan rains.
