Bulacan 6th District Rep. Salvador A. Pleyto led the groundbreaking rites for the Calumpang Flood Control Project slope protection of Sitio Calumpang in Norzagaray along the Angat River.
The flood control structures have a length of 286 linear meters and funded with more than P57 million from the General Appropriation Act (GAA) 2023. They will be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) 2nd District Bulacan Engineering Office.
With Pleyto at the groundbreaking rites were Norzagaray Vice Mayor Baldo Gener, Councilors Maricar San Pedro Pelayo and Edsel Mendoza; DPWH 2nd district engineering office head Engineer George Dela Cruz Santos; Board member Art Legaspi and other Norzagaray municipal employees.
Pleyto expressed his gratitude to President Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and DPWH Secretary Manny Bonoan.
"Sila po talaga ang tumulong sa atin upang ito ay mapondohan at masimulang isasaayos," (They are really the ones who helped us and facilitated the funding so we can start with the construction)," Pleyto said.
Residents of Sitio Calumpang in Norzagaray town in the province of Bulacan called the project an "answered prayer" and something that they have been praying for for the past 12 years.
"Sobra sobra ang aming pasasalamat dahil sa wakas ay nagkaroon na nang kasagutan at masosolusyonan na ang matagal naming hinaing sa pamahalaan. Mula pa noong Hunyo ng taong 2011 ay unti unti ng nagsimulang gumuho ang aming lugar tuwing umuulan, Mahigit 12 taon na kaming namumuhay sa takot at pangamba tuwing sasapit ang panahon ng tag-ulan," (We are so grateful because finally our appeal to the government was answered and will be solved. Since June 2011, our place is slowly eroding everytime it rains. For more than 12 years, we have been living in fear every time the rainy season comes)," they said.
