Marking the beginning of the city’s year-long celebration of its 450th founding anniversary, the Pasig City local government unveiled the new logo symbolizing the city’s heritage, history, and culture.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Vice Mayor Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr, Congressman Roman Romulo and members of the 11th City Council led the logo launch on Monday night, March 13, at the Pasig City Hall Quadrangle.

The logo design conceptualized and crafted by the Committee on Culture and Spiritual Affairs utilizes the “Letras y Figuras,” a style of painting popularized by prolific painter Jose Honorato Lozano during the Spanish colonial period.

City Councilor and Culture Committee Chairperson Angelu De Leon said the challenge was to create a logo that could tell a story in a simple yet meaningful way.

Each digit of the “450” features symbolic landmarks, icons, myths and stories, conveying the diversity of Pasig’s history and culture, its past, present, and future.

In the number 4 digit are the Cathedral of Pasig and Pasigueño revolutionary Valentin Cruz, referencing the city’s foundations during the Spanish colonial era.

To represent the city’s culture, the Pasig City Museum and “Mutya ng Pasig,” the mythical muse from local folktales were drawn in the No. 5 digit.

In number zero are the city skyline, Revolving Tower, silhouettes of Pasigueños, and 30 banderitas representing the 30 barangays, showcasing the present Pasig.

The colors were also chosen for their respective symbolic significance in the Araw ng Pasig festivities.

Red, symbolizing energy and passion, represents the lively character of Pasigueños. Blue, the color of the city’s main logo, embraces Pasig’s authentic identity built on trust and stability. Yellow, brimming with joy and hope, draws on the positivity and happiness of Pasigueños for the 450th anniversary.

De Leon said the rich heritage and character of Pasig City has been 450 years in the making. The year-long celebration aims to involve Pasigueños in all the planned activities and events, she added.

In his speech, Sotto expressed his wish for the 450th festivities to resonate with all Pasigueños.

“Ikinagagalak ko pong makasama kayo sa mga pagdiriwang natin. Pero hindi lang po sa masaya, kundi, isa pong karangalan na nandito po tayo ngayon at isine-celebrate natin bilang mga Pasigueño. Isang karangalan na mabuhay...isang karangalan na maglingkod sa ika-450 year bilang mga Pasigueño. At sana po ay ganoon po ang nararamdaman ng bawat isa sa atin. Sana magkaisa po tayo, para sa tuloy na ikauunlad ng ating Lungsod Pasig (I am glad to be with you in our celebration. But aside from happiness, it is an honor that we are here to live and serve today in our 450th year of being a Pasigueño. I hope each of us feel the same way. Let us unite for the continued progress of Pasig City),” said Sotto.

Jaworski urged citizens to reflect on their history, culture, and identity, as well as to cherish the lessons of the past in order to determine the right direction for the future as they join in the celebrations.

“Sabi nila, umaagos ang pag-asa sa ating lungsod. Pero hanapin po natin ang pag-asa hindi rito sa loob ng city hall. Hanapin po natin ang pag-asa sa ating mga puso at damdamin. Dahil tayo ang bumubuo ng lungsod ng Pasig (They say hope is overflowing in our city. But let us find hope, not in the city hall, but in our hearts because we are the lifeblood of Pasig City),” the vice mayor said.

Keeping the history and culture of Pasig alive through its youth, the launching ceremony also featured performances of traditional dances and songs by the Rizal Technological University (RTU)’s Kultura Rizalia and Himig Rizalia; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP)’s Himig Chorale; and Rizal High School’s Folkloric Group.

Araw ng Pasig or the 450th Founding Day is annually celebrated every July 2.
