BCPO launches 'Bangon Palengke Fund Challenge' to help 1700 vendors affected by Baguio fire
BAGUIO CITY -– The Baguio City Police Office launched the ‘Bangon Palengke Fund Challenge’ to raise funds through the voluntary contribution of police personnel from their salaries.
The project is geared toward alleviating the daily expenses of about 1,700 vendors of Block 3 and Block 4 of the Baguio City Public Market which was affected by the fire on March 11.
According to City Director Col. Francisco Bulwayan, Jr., they thought of a fund drive method to help the vendors boost their sales and rebound after the disaster.
The police meanwhile will continue the clearing operation until the temporary building is built.
Bulwayan immediately formed and led the task force "Bangon Palengke" which initially consisted of 250 personnel who, armed with cleaning materials and carpentry tools, proceeded to Blocks 3 and 4 of the city market on March 13 to carry out the clearing operation.
Police personnel together with the city government unit, vendors, volunteers, and other government agencies started the seven days of cleaning and clearing operations in the area which was eventually declared safe for the building of temporary stalls.
Bulwayan said skilled carpenters of Baguio's Finest will help build temporary stalls to restore the livelihood of the affected vendors.
The BCPO will likewise continue to monitor the overall situation for any possible unexpected incidents.
BCPO appeals to the public, especially on social media, to refrain from making assumptions and instead be united to rebuild the Baguio City Public Market.
