Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares conducted a bloodletting program as part of his advocacy to boost the city's medical services including its blood banks.
In photos posted on his Facebook page, Ynares led the bloodletting activity dubbed as "Dugo mo, Buhay ko 2023" where more than 300 units of blood were collected from blood donors.
"Napakalaking tulong po nito para sa ating mga kababayan na nangangailangan lalo na iyong mga sumasailalim sa operasyon at mga nasa emergency situation. Nakakatulong din po ito sa kalusugan ng ating mga blood donors dahil marami rin pong health benefits sa pagdo-donate ng dugo (The donated blood is a very big help to our countrymen who are need of blood and those undergoing operations and in emergency situations. Donating blood also has a lot of health benefits to donors)," Ynares stressed.
He said the blood donation drive has already become a tradition on his birthday but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the height of the pandemic and lockdowns, the national government observed a sharp decrease in blood donation drives which caused concern for medical facilities and patients alike that are in need of blood.
The mayor expressed gratitude to the Department of Health (DOH) 4a, DOH – Philippine Blood Center, and the Center for Health Development (CHD) 4A for being the city government's partners in the yearly activity.
He also thanked the Agimat Party-list and Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital Binangonan for being a part of this year's bloodletting program.
