Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano commended Senator Pia Cayetano for getting elected to the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU) Standing Committee on UN Affairs.
Senator Cayetano, who is in Bahrain for the 146th IPU Assembly, bagged the position of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) representative to the 18-member IPU Standing Committee on UN Affairs.

She was elected on March 11 by fellow parliament members together with Hitoshi Aoyagi from Japan.
"I look forward to articulating the agenda and concerns of the Philippines and Asia-Pacific nations before the UN," said Senator Cayetano.
“Congratulations to an outstanding Taguigeña, Sen. Pia ‘Compañera’ Cayetano,” Mayor Cayetano posted on Facebook.
For Senator Pia, her election to the IPU committee signals a vote of confidence in the leadership skills, not just of Filipinos, but of women as well, in line with the celebration of International Women’s Month.
The IPU's Committee on United Nations Affairs was established in 2007 “to better respond to the growing partnership between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations.”
Its mandate includes “evaluating progress in the cooperation between the IPU and the UN system, and proposing strategies for further action” and “convening hearings with senior UN officials.”
