Gov. Aris Aumentado and his wife, Rep. Vanessa Aumentado, welcomed the entry of M/V Filipinas Ubay that will ply the Cebu-Ubay route.
The couple attended the blessing and inauguration of the vessel on Saturday, March 11.
Aumentado said the new route will open up more opportunities especially in the second district of Bohol.
“After a long wait, there is finally a shipping route from Cebu to Ubay. Through M/V Filipinas Ubay of the Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Boholanos will now have a shorter route from Cebu to Ubay and to the second district of Bohol,” the governor said.
Rep. Aumentado said more opportunities will come with the entry of M/V Filipinas Ubay since the new route will provide passengers and shippers an alternative option to travel and conduct business in Ubay and Cebu.
“This will give more opportunities for the Boholanos. Our tourism will further pick up,” Rep. Aumentado said.
Chester Cokaliong, chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Cokaliong Shipping Lines, said the company bought M/V Filipinas Ubay for P110 million in response to the long-time request of Gov. Aumentado.
“We entered Bohol because of the request of Gov. Aris," said Cokaliong.
Cokaliong said M/V Filipinas Ubay is the smallest and 16th ship of the company.
He said the ship was built in China and specifically designed for Philippine waters.
It can accommodate 350 passengers and 20 to 25 10-wheel trucks.
The vessel will have daily trips from Ubay to Cebu and vice versa.
