The agricultural town of Morong, Rizal has initiated several programs that give importance to the town's senior citizens.
Recently, the town’s fifth living centenarian, Antonia R. Tiratira received a P50,000 check as a token from the municipal government of Morong, Rizal as part of the local government’s programs for the senior citizens who have reached the age of 100.
The municipal government said recognizing the centenarians is one way of showing appreciation to them for their many roles and contributions to the development of the town, which during the Spanish period was a still a province.
Mayor Sidney Soriano personally greeted "Inang Antonia" as she is fondly called by her relatives and neighbors, during a visit of the local officials on her 100th birthday in Barangay Lagundi in Morong, recently.
Aside from the cash gift and certificate, the municipal government has also been giving the senior citizens a cake on their birthday.
