For summer 2023, IKEA has partnered with Finnish design house Marimekko to create a Nordic sauna-inspired collection. The collection includes furniture, glassware, textiles, and accessories, all adorned with vibrant prints reflecting the aesthetic beauty of Nordic nature. “This pattern for the Bastua collection is inspired by the large, decorative rhubarb leaves that sometimes grow next to sauna buildings in Finland,” tells Maija Louekari, designer at Marimekko. “You can have a piece of Nordic happiness with you, even without a sauna.” With clean lines and simple construction, the IKEA x Marimekko pieces are perfect for self-care at home, creating a serene and calming atmosphere. The furniture pieces, including benches, side tables, a sauna bucket with a ladle, and a mirror, are made of solid birch and designed with Nordic aesthetics in mind. Even the iconic IKEA Frakta carrier gets a splash of Marimekko magic with larger-than-life rhubarb prints and signature patterns.
