Hey, film buffs! This café is where your love for movies and passion for food meet
Cinema '76 Café finds a new home in Tomas Morato, Quezon City
By John Legaspi
In 2021, a time when theaters were pushed to close their doors, Cinema ’76 Film Society offered a new experience to Filipino film buffs with its Cinema ’76 Café. Soon enough, it became a hotspot not just for moviegoers but also for Filipino foodies. This year, the café invites everyone to an elevated casual dining experience and warm, homey interior with its new location in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

Set to open on March 18, Cinema ’76 Café is bringing to the table a new menu featuring dishes inspired by cinema and international flavors. Leading its menu creation are renowned chefs of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies led by Chefs Gene and Gino Gonzalez. What diners can expect from the café are reimagined comfort food and handcrafted beverages that can be taken inside and enjoyed in the theater.
“A good mix of new and familiar flavors,” Chef Gino describes the menu they crafted. “We have favorite bistro dishes that are not necessarily Filipino but are very agreeable to the Filipino taste. We have American, Italian, and a bit of Asian, too, so everyone will have more reasons to go here.”
What diners shouldn’t miss trying are its truffle fries, mozzarella sticks, and chorizo chisu croquettes. Chefs Gene and Gino also put a new spin on movie snacks such as nachos and popcorn. Their nachos are made from premium stone ground chips with sour cream, salsa cruda, cheese sauce, and ground beef. While the popcorn comes with distinctive flavors like truffle caramel, smoked ribs, and cheddar. Paying homage to TBA Studios’ beloved historical films is the chefs’ sandwich selection. First is “Luna,” a chicken tocino sandwich with salted egg relish, and tomatoes. “Del Pilar” features adobo flakes and cream cheese with pickled onion. Lastly is “Quezon,” a chicken inasal sandwich with tomatoes and creamy béchamel sauce. Also, make room for the café's Margherita soup, steak and fries, seared salmon served with thick-cut fries, and the TBA Studios Box-Office pasta, an extra virgin olive oil-based chorizo pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, toasted bell peppers, and shimeji mushrooms.

“We wanted the café to reflect the needs of our growing customer base so we made sure to incorporate dining options for them, which we couldn’t implement in our former branch. With our spacious dining area and a customizable menu, we can do so much more and be an ideal venue for different types of events,” says TBA Studios president and COO Daphne O. Chiu. “Tomas Morato has always felt like the heart of the entertainment capital, Quezon City, and we’re pleased and excited to be part of this community. We look forward to serving anyone looking for a unique place to dine.”
