After its rollout in Japan, Australia, and Italy, GCash Overseas will soon be available to the first 1,000 Filipinos in the United States and they can use its services even without a Philippine SIM Card, the e-wallet provider announced Monday, March 13.
“Now that we have activated GCash outside the Philippines, we are working towards making it available in more countries," says GCash president and CEO Martha Sazon.
"This time, we are adding the US to our list to be able to service over 4 million Filipinos residing there,” she noted.
“With strong support from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), we are able to make significant headway in scaling our services, aligned with our vision of ‘Finance for All’.”
Earlier this month, GCash received the green light from the BSP to start the initial launch of its overseas service. Hence, Filipinos in the US, Japan, Australia and Italy can soon begin using GCash in their mobile numbers in the countries where they live and suppor their families back home, sending money for free (GCash to GCash), paying bills, and buying prepaid load credits.
First, they just need to download the app from Google Play Store for Android, the App Store for iPhone and iPad users, or the Huawei Gallery.
Users can then select their country and input their details. To verify their account, they just need to scan their Philippine passport or other valid IDs and take a selfie.
Fully verified users can then cash in via Remitly to start sending money, paying bills, and buying load wherever they are, with just a few taps on the app.
Aside from making GCash services available to more Filipinos worldwide, the e-wallet has also been expanding its international payments touchpoints in partnership with global fintech giant, Alipay+.
GCash can now be used to pay in select merchants across countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Qatar as well as top European destinations like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.
