A man was injured in a fire that gutted around 25 houses at Gate 62, Parola Compound in Barangay 275, Binondo, Manila on Monday, March 13.
The Manila Police District (MPD) Delpan Police Station (PS 12) said the injured resident suffered second-degree burns. He is now in stable condition.
According to the initial report of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the first alarm was declared at 4:30 p.m. and the second alarm at 4:39 p.m. It escalated to third alarm at 5:19 a.m.
Firefighters said the houses were made of light materials. It took them another hour before the fire was put under control at 6:19 a.m. and extinguished at 6:58 a.m.
MPD said the fire displaced at least 150 families. They were evacuated to a covered court on Delpan St. in Tondo, Manila.
Members of the Manila Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office had already installed partition tents at the covered court. They also distributed hot meals and sanitary kits to the victims.
BFP said the fire damaged over P300,000 worth of property.
Arson probers are still investigating the origin of the blaze.
