CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Authorities arrested two members of the Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of the New People’s Army over the weekend in Barangay Kauswagan, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 (Caraga) Director Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II identified the suspects as Regie A. Ligan, 20, of Barangay Tagbongabong, Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte, and Gabriel R. Sagay, 28, of Barangay Pianing, Butuan City.
Ligan was the SPARU squad leader of SYP21C, Guerrilla Front 21 (GF 21), of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) while Sagay was a member of the same unit.
Suspects were apprehended by the Cabadbaran City Police Station, 29th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office, 2nd Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company, and RTR Municipal Police Station.
Ligan was arrested on a warrant issued by the Municipal Circuit Trial Court, 10th Judicial Region, Butuan City dated Oct. 26, 2022, for attempted homicide. Sagay was also nabbed on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 7, 10th Judicial Region, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur dated May 11, 2021 for attempted murder.
Suspects yielded a caliber .9mm Taurus pistol with 16 bullets and Philippine National Police markings issued to Patrolman Nazar Alistair A. Libot who was a fatality of an NPA raid on a farm here in 2021; one caliber .45 caliber Rock Island pistol with Armed Forces markings with 11 ammunition, and one blasting cap with detonating cord.
Troops also seized five transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with estimated weight of one gram and standard drug price of P6,800 and three disposable lighters.
Labra cited the arrest of the suspects.
“The apprehension of these CTG members is another breakthrough accomplishment by the PNP Caraga in its efforts to go after wanted terrorists and a product of the PNP’s intensified legal offensive versus the CTG,” Labra said.
“Justice shall be served for the cops mercilessly killed by the enemies of the state in Butuan City and for civilians who became victims to their atrocities,” he added.
Suspects are under the custody of the Cabadbaran police.
