ILOILO CITY – The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR)-Region 6 (Western Visayas) has established water sampling stations in areas hit by the oil slick from a sunken oil tanker in Caluya town, Antique province.

These water sampling stations were put up in the island barangays of Alegria, Semirara, and Tinogboc.
“The sampling team had a selection process based on the wind and tidal direction and earlier assessment conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG),” the EMB-6 said.
Six water sampling stations were created in Barangay Tinogboc. Barangays Alegria and Barangay Semirara each have three water sampling stations.
“Water sampling results will be released once available,” the EMB-6 added.
Measures have been under way since last week to stop the spread of the oil slick that reached Caluya from the sunken tanker from Oriental Mindoro.
These include clean up of affected shoreline as well as installation of spill booms and collection of oil slick debris.
The EMB-6 is set to conduct vapor monitoring, follow-up water quality sampling, and assessment of the storage, hauling, and transport of the collected oil and oil contaminated materials in the island from March 14 to 17.
