PASSI CITY – Adrian Wong enjoyed the unusual competitiveness of the PBA all-star game between the Greats and Stalwarts at the City of Passi Arena on Friday, March 10, here.
Unlike in the previous editions where the all-star selections tried to treat the fans with highlight dunks and superb offensive display all throughout the game, the match between the league rising stars saw a much more competitive game with both teams showing defensive intensity right from the get go.
Although the booming triples and the high flying acts still generate ‘oohs and aah’ from the good-sized crowd inside the venue, the emphatic blocks and steals were equally entertaining for the fans.
“It was competitive. I feel like people are going hard except for the end when we knew the scores were already done but for the most part it was really competitive. I like the competitiveness. It makes the game really fun,” said the RSJ game MVP who unloaded 18 of his 29 points in the final frame to lead the Greats to a 158-138 victory over the Stalwarts
Also adding another flavor to the games were the three-point dunks and the four-point shots. In fact, it was Wong who first nailed the four-pointer from the far left wing.
“I think it's on the left wing then after that I'm just feeling it so I just kept rolling with it to see what happens after,” said Wong.
Overall it was a really great experience for the Magnolia gunner as they not only treated the fans with a highlight-filled game but also a competitive one that the fans could truly enjoy.
“I'm just happy everyone came out and competed. It's one of those games where everyone played really hard and everyone wanted to win. Everyone brought their game. It's a rising stars challenge basically so it's the best of talents in the PBA and I'm just happy we got the win. Fortunately I got the MVP,” he added.
