Japan envoy thanks PCG for swift rescue of Japanese crew members off Oriental Mindoro

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko has expressed his gratitude to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for its swift response and [rescue](https://mb.com.ph/2023/3/11/pcg-saves-5-japanese-crew-from-tilted-fishing-vessel-off-oriental-mindoro) of five Japanese crew members onboard a tilted vessel off the waters of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro on Saturday. In a tweet, Koshikawa lauded the action of the PCG, saying it was "admirable." "We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the @coastguardph for their swift response and rescue of five Japanese crew members aboard MV Catriona off the coast of Oriental Mindoro," the post read. "Your dedication to duty and commitment to saving lives are truly admirable," it furthered. Japan Coast Guard (JCG) commandant Admiral Shohei Ishii likewise expressed his gratitude to the PCG for its "prompt and brave rescue operation" to ensure the safety of five vessel crew members. "This kind of crossover effort by both agencies is true evidence of our long-standing friendship, and I believe our expert team will also contribute to your relief operation as well," Ishii said. "I hope our bilateral relationship grows even further through cooperation at this time," he added. The PCG rescued a fishing vessel's five Japanese crew members after encountering a maritime accident off Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, on Saturday morning, March 11. PCG spokesman Rear Adm. Armando Balilo said MV Catriona encountered a vessel listing -- tilted to one side after taking in water -- at approximately 2.6 nautical miles northeast of Silonay Island in Calapan around 6:30 a.m.
