Group holds bloodletting activity for road accident victims, patients in Bulacan
More than 47 bags of blood were filled during a bloodletting activity conducted by a group in Hagonoy, Bulacan on Saturday, March 11.Â
The Kabayani Bulunterismo, a group of blood donors headed by Hagonoy Councilor Elmer Santos, spearheaded the bloodletting campaign recognizing the need to replenish the supply of blood bag rations to hospitals, especially for victims of vehicular accidents and patients who need blood transfusion. Â
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Hagonoy Mayor Baby Manlapaz,  Hagonoy policemen headed by its Police Chief  Lt. Col. Emmanuel L. Bolina, and other groups showed their support to the activity.

The volunteers went through a series of tests, including physical checkups, blood typing, malaria, and HIV test from the screening committee composed of doctors. After filling out the blood bags, each donor was given a certificate that guarantees them and their relatives as priority blood bag recipients in case of blood transfusion. Among the blood donors who received certificates of recognition were the village captains of Barangays Abulalas, Sta Cruz, and San Isidro and some of their barangay councilors. Councilor Santos emphasized the importance of blood donation for life-saving. Meanwhile, Mayor Manlapaz expressed her gratitude for this kind of project and encouraged Bulakenyos who can donate blood to join the Kabayani Bulunterismo campaign. Aside from strengthening the blood supply, the life-saving project likewise benefits donors to get free executive and medical checkups during the screening.Â
