By Inigo Roces
The Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) announced that Genevieve Tiu, a journalist and video producer at CarGuide.PH has been appointed to the WWCOTY jury. This is the first time that Philippines has been represented on the prestigious jury.
With the addition of Tiu, the WWCOTY’s panel now consists of 64 female automotive journalists from 47 countries. WWCOTY aims to recognize the best cars of each year, while also giving a voice to women in the automotive world.
Gen has been immersed in the automotive world largely through business, having grown up in a company that is involved in the automotive aftermarket industry. Through this, her experience extends from business development and collaborations with car manufacturers, PR and communications, media relations, and, of course, to her work as a motoring journalist.
Being part of the motoring media has opened up new experiences, opportunities, and doors. It allowed her to pursue her passion for writing and cars, as well as build a network within the local industry.
Currently, Gen writes and produces for CarGuide.PH, an independent Philippine automotive website. The website actively engages with the community on a range of topics covering the industry and other related categories. At the time of this release, it is also the only Philippine-based online automotive publication with a full-time female writer on the team. Gen is also a columnist, with a column, “Drive and Doodles.”
The Women’s World Car of the Year jury had just recently announced the 2023 Women’s World Cars of the Year in six categories. These vehicles represent excellence in their segments based on safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, impact on the environment and value for money. This is the thirteenth edition of the awards presented by WWCOTY. It is the only all-female jury in the automotive industry. Among the winners were the Nissan X-Trail, for the large SUV category, with plenty of interior space and the option of seven seats. The Ford Ranger was also named best 4×4 for being a reliable, stylish and charismatic pick-up that moves with ease over any terrain and is efficient and practical.
