Alex Eala and Lithuanian partner Justine Mikulskyte fell short in their bid to book a finals berth Friday, March 10, in the women’s doubles of the W60 Trnava 2nd Empire Women’s Indoor Tennis Tournament in Slovakia.
Eala and Mikulskyte failed to contain the ferocious plays of British top seeds Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls to yield 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinal.
A victory for Eala and Mikulskyte could have set them up a championship meeting with third seed Amina Anshba and Czech Republic’s Anastasia Detiuc, but Barnett and Nicholls were too hot to handle.
The doubles loss came a day after Eala also bowed out of singles contention with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to another British player in Sonay Kortal.
