2 arrested for assaulting Filipina and son in New York


Two individuals were arrested for assaulting a Filipina and her son in Queens, New York.

On March 7, Cecille Martinez-Lai was with her son when they got yelled at with anti-Asian slurs and assaulted by three persons at the intersection of Junction Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue in New York City, according to a report from CBS News.

"They started screaming 'Ugly, ugly Asians.' They kept screaming to us, saying, 'Ugly Asian (expletive)," Lai told CBS News.

Lai added her son gave them the middle finger, which prompted the two men and a woman get off their car.

"She punched me and I was knocked out unconscious, so ... the moment I woke up I saw one of the guys punching my son," the Filipina added.

In the CCTV released by the New York Police District (NYPD), three individuals got out of their vehicle and one of them punched Lai.

Police already arrested two of the suspects, Natalie Plaza and Elijah Fernandez, both from Queens, on Wednesday.

"I love New York, but if the street is always dangerous for us, it's not good," Lai told CBS News.
