Dolly de Leon being recognized by international award-giving bodies is a testament that Filipinos’ talents are world-class. Her appearances on the red carpet are not just winning moments for the local acting community, but also a victory for Filipino fashion. After donning an edgy ensemble by AZ Factory’s Norman Rene De Vera at the Golden Globes and Rajo Laurel’s mesmerizing “Alon” gown at the BAFTAs red carpet, Dolly once again put another Filipino designer in the spotlight with her look at the BAFTAs after party.

Filipino fashion designer Jude Macasinag crafts a “kumot-coat” for the “Triangle of Sadness” star and describes the experience of dressing her as “an honor.” According to his post, the look includes a cotton gabardine waist cincher, a pair of distressed trousers, and the “kumot -coat” made of denim and Duchesse silk.
“Her stylist, LJ Perez, mentioned how she easily gets cold. So in humor, I made her a blanket—but couture version, of course.” Jude says about the hilarious moniker of the coat.
“Dolly’s look is an abstraction drawing from the iconic Sparrow blanket—a nostalgic nod to our shared Filipino heritage,” he adds. “We however wanted to reinterpret it in a more everyday direction, working with denim that was treated, patchworked, and then hand painted in an expressionistic manner. Her denim smoking trousers, made in the same material, [play] with codes of the everyday and the formal, and [are] worn on top of a cotton gabardine waist cincher.”
As a personal touch, Jude stitched a note on the lining of the coat that says, “Para kay Dolly.”
Dolly bagged a supporting actress nomination at BAFTA 2023, but it is “The Banshees of Inisherin” star Kerry Condon took home the award. Apart from the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, international award ceremonies such as the Satellite Awards, and London Film Critic Awards recognized Dolly’s stellar performance as Abigail in Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness.”
