Saint Louie U dancers dazzle, clinch festival category title in Panagbenga
BAGUIO CITY – The Saint Louie University Center for Culture and the Arts dancers dazzled their way to victory in one of the main events in the Panagbenga Festival here on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26.
The SLU dancers put together an excellent show depicting culture and tradition in a performance entitled ‘Man-Apit’ (the Ibaloi term for harvest) during the street-dancing and showdown competition in the festival category of the Panagbenga that had ‘A Renaissance of Wonder and Beauty’ as its theme this year.
SLU, which also shone in the last edition in 2019 before the annual event was shelved for three years due to pandemic, won the top cash prize of P200,000.
Tribu Rizal of Rizal National School of Arts and Trades, in Rizal, Kalinga placed second in the festival category and took home P100,000, while University of the Cordilleras (Baguio City) settled for third and the P70,000 cash prize.

The Infrastructure and Enterprises Zone Authority (TIEZA) and Zaparita Garden got a share of the limelight after dominating their respective ‘float’ categories of the annual festival.
The TIEZA float carrying actor and Senator Lito Lapid and his son Mark was adjudged the best in the big float category which rewarded it with P500,000 in cash prizes.
Coming in second in the big float was Avilon Zoo which took P300,000 while SITEL-Philippines float was adjudged third (200,000).
Zaparita Garden emerged as the best too in the small float category, and took away P250,000, with Mang Inasal settling for second (P150,000) and Province of Benguet third (P100,000).
In cultural category, Saeng Ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble from University of the Cordilleras (Baguio City) clinched the first place and P100,000, with Uggayam Turayan Cultural Group of San Vicente (Baguio City) taking second place and P70,000 and Labban di E-lagan Indigenous Peoples Organization, Laban, Sabangan, Mountain Province third (P50,000).
Baguio Central Elementary School was declared champion in drum and lyre competition with P150,000 cash prize, followed by Tuba Central School of Tuba, Benguet in second place with P100,000 and Josefa Cariño Elementary School, Baguio City at third with P70,000.
The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. (BFFI) announced the winners during the Kapihan sa Media on Wednesday, March 1, at the Session Road in Bloom event area, while the awarding ceremony will be held on March 5 before the closing of the month-long celebration of Panagbenga Festival 2023.
