Muntinlupa marks 28th cityhood anniversary; Biazon to deliver first State of the City Address

Muntinlupa is celebrating the 28th anniversary of its cityhood today, March 1, with various activities. 

It was on March 1, 1995 when then President Fidel Ramos signed Republic Act 7926 or the Charter of the City of Muntinlupa, converting the municipality into a highly urbanized city.

Residents approved and ratified the cityhood in a plebiscite held simultaneously with the elections on May 8, 1995. At the time, Muntinlupa became the eighth city in the National Capital Region and 65th in the country.

March 1 is a special non-working holiday in Muntinlupa with the enactment of Republic Act 9191, or the Muntinlupa City Charter Day, in 2003. 

Mayor Ruffy Biazon and Senator Risa Hontiveros will lead the opening of the Bahay Kanlungan Elderly Home Care in Victoria Homes, Barangay Tunasan, a new facility specializing in geriatric care. 

"Our cityhood is a journey. (As Muntinlupa recovers from the pandemic), I believe we have turned the page," said Biazon, referring to the city's economic turnaround that has earned for it several awards, including being one of the top five competitive cities in the country.

Biazon will also deliver his first State of the City Address (SOCA) after getting elected as mayor in the May 2022 elections. The SOCA will focus on his administration's accomplishments and plans under the 7K Agenda. 

One of the highlights of the cityhood celebration is the recognition of Muntinlupa's top 10 taxpayers. 

They are Filinvest Alabang Inc., Ford Group Philippines Inc.; Filinvest Land Inc.-Festival Supermall, Ayala Land Inc., Filinvest Reit Corporation, Meralco Business Center, Amkor Technology Philippines, Capital One Philippines Support Services Corp., GenPact Services LLC Philippines Inc. and Insular Life Assurance Company Ltd.

On Feb. 28, Biazon led the opening of the newly-refurbished Alabang Central Market wet section, one of the flagship projects of the city government.
