De La Salle made quick work of University of the Philippines with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 win to pick up its second win in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, March 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Lady Spikers didn’t waste any moment and dictated the tone in each set to come away with the swift victory.
Angel Canino had another impressive performance after finishing with 13 points off 11 attacks and two aces to go along with six excellent receptions to help La Salle improve 2-0 in the standings for a share of the lead with defending champion National University.
Jolina Dela Cruz added 12 points built on eight attacks and four blocks while Thea Gagate added 10.
Unlike their opening win against University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses last Feb. 26, the Lady Spikers only needed less than one and half hours to turn away the Fighting Maroons.
Despite pulling away late in the second set, Canino would come through for La Salle after scoring three of the last four points to keep the 25-20 set win before completely taking control of the third.
"Sigh of relief na last time medyo hindi maganda yung naging umpisa namin siguro sobrang tight so kinausap lang namin yung mga bata na ibalik lang yung sistema," said La Salle interim head coach Noel Orcullo.
Stephanie Bustrillo paced the Fighting Maroons with 10 points as the lone bright spot for the team as they slid to a 0-2 start.
