BACOLOD CITY – A couple wanted for the death of their child in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental was arrested by authorities on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Police withheld the names of the 23-year-old husband and his 22-year-old live-in partner who are residents of Barangay Patic.
Pulupundan police Chief Captain Emman Anacleto said the couple was arrested on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 62 in Bago City on Feb. 2, 2022. NO bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the couple.
Anacleto said the man is the number one most wanted person while his live-in partner is number two most wanted person in the town.
The case stemmed from an incident in August 2022 wherein a one-day old baby boy was discovered buried alive in a public cemetery in the town.
A grave digger heard a baby crying and when he checked one of the tombs, he saw the baby placed inside a box.
The baby was already pale and turning purple, when he brought him to the hospital. However, the baby passed away the following day.
Anacleto said the couple was identified by some residents in their village.
Anacleto said the couple told the police that they buried the baby on the presumption that he was already dead.
However, Anacleto said the couple had lapses, as they did not bring the baby to a hospital or clinic for check-up.
The baby was the couple’s second child, according to Anacleto.
