Angono shooting suspect surrenders to police

The gunman in the Feb. 3 shooting incident that killed a 20-year-old male in Angono, Rizal, whose crime was caught on CCTV, has been released from police custody pending the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Information from the office of Angono Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon showed that the 18-year-old gunman in the slaying of Kevin Villamayor of Barangay Poblacion Ibaba, Angono, Rizal surrendered to the Pasig City Police Station earlier this week.

He was, however, released reportedly upon the directive of the prosecutor’s office.

The Angono Police told the Manila Bulletin that the gunman’s live-in-partner has been in police custody following her arrest over the weekend.

The primary suspect, his live-in-partner and another male cohort, have been charged with murder for the death of Villamayor.

The shooting incident that happened early morning of Feb. 3 on the main road fronting the municipal hall, caught by the municipal government’s CCTV and upload on social media, had stirred speculations among netizens.

Netizens pointed to the alleged lapses of responding authorities leading to the gunman’s escape.

Sources said the gunman, right after the brutal shooting, hurriedly walked away from the crime scene but managed to stay for a few minutes outside a convenience store a few meters from where the shooting happened.

Police, however, claimed that a desk officer of the Angono Police Station had responded to the crime scene but he failed to catch the suspect.

An empty shell of a .9mm caliber pistol was found by Scene of the Crime Operation personnel at the crime scene.

The municipal government said that it had shouldered the funeral expenses of the Villamayor family.
