A timely showcase

Seiko kicked off the year with a three-day timepiece showcase of its iconic collections at SM Megamall

Seiko’s roots began in central Tokyo when 21-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company is still dedicated to the perfection that the founder always strove to achieve.

It is only fitting that a legacy so great should be celebrated.

From Feb. 3 to 5, Seiko Philippines brought pockets of this rich heritage and expertise in luxury timepieces in a showcase hosting a variety of activities that are sure to entice and excite both watch enthusiasts and anyone who wants to immerse themselves in culture, style, elegance, and creativity. The free event was open to the public and featured limited-edition timepieces from the beloved global brands of Seiko—Prospex, Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports—with exciting and engaging games and activities like a self-shoot pop-up studio, live music, a virtual diving experience, as well as a raffle for a chance to win a Seiko watch, instore.

The event will feature limited-edition creations, namely Seiko 5 Sports, Prospex, and Presage.

55th Year Anniversary Seiko 5 Sports Series

Show your ttyle with Seiko 5 Sports aka SRPJ79

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the Seiko 5 Sports Series. The line takes inspiration from Japanese popular culture to produce one of the watches from the line Ultraseven, one of the most well-loved science fiction series. For the 55th anniversary, the piece pays homage to the first Seiko 5 Sports watch. It includes a nylon strap specially designed with the Ultra Guard's uniform colors as well as a back case back marked with "Limited Edition" and a serial number. On the other hand, the watch’s glass is marked with a silhouette of Ultraseven. As a finishing touch, its strap is marked with the words "Terrestrial Defense Force." The 55th Anniversary Series will also release other watches which are set to be announced all throughout 2023.

Participants enjoyed activities such as a self-shoot popup studio, giant beer pong, or relax over drinks. They also joined an arcade tournament for a chance to win exclusive prizes from Seiko.

110th Anniversary SEIKO PROSPEX Save the Ocean Limited Edition

Embrace nature and history with the 110th Anniversary Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean Limited Edition

Only 5,000 pieces of this limited-edition piece will exist in the world. The watch’s slim case is based on 1968’s reference 6105-8000 diver’s watch, a robust yet elegant Seiko classic whose flowing case inspired the designs of many iconic diver’s watches that followed. Though its case references a diver’s watch from the past, the Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean Limited Edition runs on the modern and high-performing 6R35 automatic caliber with 70 hours of power reserve.

During the showcase, watch enthusiasts discovered more about the timepieces’ rich heritage at the Prospex History Wall and immersed their senses in an out-of-this-world virtual diving experience. Using Seiko Speedtimer, they also tried to stop the digital stopwatch at the 9.95th second. The 10 guests with the nearest time received exclusive tickets to Seiko Prospex’s upcoming outdoor activity event this March.

Limited Edition Seiko Presage

Seiko Presage: A tribute to a 100-year legacy

Paying homage to the Laurel, Seiko’s very first timepiece created in 1913, Seiko Presage revives the form and design of the Laurel in every detail. The round case is carefully constructed to retain the elegance of the original while housing a modern automatic movement. The large onion crown is also faithfully re-created, in keeping with the nostalgic feel of this special timepiece. It runs on Seiko’s high-performance Caliber 6R27, which has a power-reserve indicator at the nine o’clock position and a date indicator at six o’clock. As a finishing touch, the watch’s case back is marked with the words “Limited Edition” and the individual number.

In line with Seiko’s lineage in culture and creativity, guests embraced the beauty of art by having wishes and ideas captured by a professional calligrapher in Kanji characters. Cocktails were also served at the Seiko Presage Prohibition bar area.
