Spectrum, the solar solutions subsidiary of power utility giant Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has cornered perfume label Aficionado and Japanese food house Takoyatea as its new customers for solar rooftop installations.

In a media statement, Spectrum emphasized that it will be setting up the solar PV facilities for the two corporate brands, which will have aggregate capacity of 89.82-kilowatt peak (kWp).

The installations cover four sites. Takoyatea’s commissary and Aficionado’s main office in Sampaloc, Manila, while Aficionado’s manufacturing plant and warehouse are in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Engineer Ferdinand O. Geluz, president and CEO of Spectrum, indicated that “apart from being empowered to achieve sustainability and financial goals, our partners are also assured of good quality and reliable service.”

He specified that “through our end-to-end solar solutions, Aficionado and Takoyatea are certain to get the necessary support they will need from Spectrum as they continue to move forward towards becoming sustainable business.”

Spectrum reported that it already completed last year the 12.74 kWp solar project for the Takoyatea commissary in Manila. So far, that already logged P99,000 worth of savings and reduced the brand’s carbon emissions by about 6.0 tons for the June 2022 to January 2023 period.

For the entire installation, the project is estimated to yield average cost savings of P951,000 annually apart from contributing to carbon emissions reduction to help abate global warming risks.

For the two brands, their carbon intensity will be pared by 87.34 tons, equivalent to planting 4,020 trees or cutting down vehicle travels by 348,000 kilometers.

According to Joel Cruz, president and CEO of Aficionado and also the owner of Takoyatea, “We strive to be an advocate of sustainable energy,” adding that “the pandemic has taught us about caring for our health and our environment, hence, making us more conscious of the smart use of our resources.”

He further qualified that “incorporating sustainable practices in our business operations is all part of our corporate direction.”
