"Tandaan niyo: Walang lugar ang Makati para sa mga manloloko, mandaraya at mandarambong (Remember: Makati has no place for deceitful, dishonest, and corrupt people)."
This was the message Makati City Mayor Abby Binay to the public and workers of the city government following the arrest of three individuals involved in fixing activities in the city government on Jan. 31.
The suspects were identified as Wilfreda de Leon, 59, working as an Administrative Assistant II; Merlin Balbuena, 46, an employee under the Makati Health Department’s Sanitary Section; and Aisheen Mana-ay, 27.
The three individuals were arrested by operatives of the Makati City Police for accepting money in exchange for under-the-table processing and release of several government-issued documents such as business permits and health certificates.
De Leon, Balbuena, and Mana-ay were charged for violation of Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.
Binay expressed her gratitude and commended Makati City Police chief PCol. Edward Cutiyog and the entire police department for their swift action that led to the apprehension of the three suspects.
"Nawa ay magsilbi itong babala sa mga fixer sa loob at labas ng pamahalaang lungsod. Hindi po kami titigil sa panghuhuli at pagpaparusa ng mga tiwaling kawani at opisyal sa city hall (I hope this will serve as a warning to the fixers inside and outside the city government. We will not stop in apprehending and arresting the corrupt employees and officials of the city hall)," Binay warned.
"Gusto kong mapanatiling malinis ang rekord ng aking administrasyon laban sa korapsyon at mga maanomalyang transaksiyon. Hindi ko hahayaang sirain ng iilang tao ang pinaghirapan at pinagsikapan ng mas maraming lingkod-bayan sa loob nang maraming taon (I want to keep my administration's clean record against corruption and other anomalous transactions. I will not let some people destroy the hardwork and endeavours of our public servants for so many years)," she added.
The mayor then thanked the employees of the city hall for their honesty in serving the city and the Makatizens as she expressed hope that they would not be easily blinded by money being offered by corrupt individuals.
"Patuloy sana kayong maging matatag laban sa temptasyon at alalahaning sa inyo nagsisimula ang malinis at matapat na pamunuan (I hope that you will all be firm in fighting temptation and always remember that a clean and honest government always starts with you)," Binay stressed.
She also called on eShe all business owners, residents of Makati, as wells employees of the City Hall, to report any irregularity that they see in the city every day.
