Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. vowed to conduct "no let up" tax enforcement operations to hit the P2.6 trillion collection target for the year.
The BIR chief made the pledge during the launching of the agency's 2023 tax drive at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City with President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.
He also congratulated the men and women of the service "for job well done" for breaching last year's collection goal of P2.1 trillion, raising more than P2.3 trillion
Lumagui expressed optimism that the bureau will duplicate last year's collection success through intensified enforcement activities like imposition of stiff fines and filing of tax evasion charges against tax cheats.
To stress the program against taxpayers under declaring earnings, Lumagui said he has already filed tax evasion charges against hundreds of suspected tax evaders worth some P5 billion.
He said his administration will also continue internal cleansing operations to remove undesirables in the service.
To encourage taxpayers to comply with their financial obligations to the government, Lumagui urged revenuers to serve them efficiently and with integrity.
