So your knees have wrinkles?

Who knew? Another insecurity unlocked

When we talk about aging gracefully in the world of cosmetic procedures, we usually talk about how we can rejuvenate the face, or how we can prevent signs of aging on the face. While the face is usually the first thing we work on—it is the first thing people notice after all, there are other areas of the body that can give away our age, no matter how youthful our face may look.

For most Gen X and Baby boomer generation today, it is not only the face that should be the prime consideration but also the body. Taking graceful aging journey a step further by beginning to look at other areas of the body that can rejuvenate is equally important.

Summer is right around the corner, and this means we will all be wearing shorts and swimsuits very soon. We usually only think about our face when it comes to wrinkles, but our body is even more susceptible to this sign of aging.

Wrinkles and loss of volume are readily seen on the knees.

Many people see wrinkles, folds, or sagging on their knees and elbow area as they age.

Knee wrinkles, or “kninkles,” are on one of the areas in our body particularly prone to wrinkling, sagging, and drooping, usually caused by repeated stretches throughout a lifetime. Usually these wrinkles are also accompanied by loose, excess skin. Thankfully, just like wrinkles on the face or neck, there are also ways to take care of wrinkles on the knees.

One of the most popular ways to rejuvenate the knees is injection of hyperdiluted calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres or Radiesse. It is a biocompatible, biodegradable, and resorbable biostimulatory filler that can stimulate the endogenous production of collagen. It is a unique product that provides both volume replacement and collagen biostimulation as a primary mechanism of action.

Knee wrinkles, or 'kninkles,' are on one of the areas in our body particularly prone to wrinkling, sagging, and drooping, usually caused by repeated stretches.

When used in hyperdiluted form, Radiesse has a minimal or absent immediate volumizing effect due to carboxymethylcellulose gel dispersion, generating only long-term tissue remodeling by the CaHA microspheres and allowing its injection more superficially for dermal rejuvenation and the treatment of larger areas.  This will stimulate new tissue formation, elastin production, and new vessel formation. This simultaneously improves the skin texture, reduces fine lines, and increases elasticity. The aesthetic results may last for 18 months with tight and elastic skin and increased skin thickness.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite (Radiesse) is associated with a high and well-established safety profile. It is a very effective agent for soft tissue augmentation on various areas of the face and the body. Nowadays, face and body rejuvenation is best done without surgery and without downtime. With treating patients for beauty, doctors and aesthetic professionals should always adhere to do no harm by using high-quality innovations to help understand the balance of risk and benefit for every patient.
