Senators hail Yulo as one of PH's best gymnasts
Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo is one of the best gymnasts the country has seen and for bringing honor to the Philippines, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said on Monday, February 6.
Sponsoring Senate Resolution No. 458, taking into consideration seven other resolutions, Zubiri said Yulo made history-making triumphs at the World Artistic Gymnastics, the Southeast Asian Games, the All-Japan Seniors Championship, and the World Gymnastics Championships, among others.
“I have no doubt that many young Filipinos have been inspired to work just as hard, and to pursue their athletic interests just as seriously as ‘Caloy’ does. And this ability to inspire our youth is a great triumph in itself,’’ he said.
‘’We in the Senate are one with the whole country in supporting him as he pursues even greater athletic heights, particularly throughout his competitions this year, on the road to the Paris Olympics in 2024,” he added.’
The Senate unanimously adopted the resolution honoring Yulo for winning multiple medals at the world artistic gymnastics competitions.
Senator Imee Marcos approached Yulo at the VIP gallery at the Senate session hall to congratulate the Filipino gymnastics prodigy.
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva joined his colleagues in congratulating and commending Yulo for his numerous achievements in gymnastics.
Villanueva said Yulo won numerous awards and is one of the best gymnasts of the country.
He said the young Carlos, who used to spend his afternoons watching the country’s top gymnasts train at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, is now an inspiration to millions of young aspiring athletes.
“He has time and again made the country proud of his world-class talent, determination and unwavering commitment to excellence, as shown in his impressive performance in these competitions. Carlos deserves all the support, praise, and commendation of the entire nation,” Villanueva said.
Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. co-sponsored Senate Resolution 458 congratulating and commending Yulo as one of the country’s best gymnasts and for raising the Philippine flag on the international stage.
Revilla said Yulo’s quest for excellence in gymnastics continuously brings honor and pride to the Philippines.
“It is an honor to rise and join my colleagues in co-sponsoring the resolution, congratulating and commending one of the greatest athletes of this generation, perhaps the most outstanding gymnast our country has ever produced, and definitely a pride of all Filipinos,” Revilla stressed in his co-sponsorship speech.
“With us today is a young man, who continues to bring pride and honor to our country. A man whose greatest aspiration is to carry the nation’s flag, raise it on the international stage, and win for the country,” he added.
